The past few seasons have been awash with colour. From post box red to cobalt blue and delicate pastels – pink and Parma Violet purple. Those of us not used to wearing colour, have been encouraged to embrace the rainbow.
For the new Autumn/Winter season though, things are changing and natural, earthy colours are taking over. Here, we discuss the new season’s Terracotta Tones.
Coco Chan, head of women’s ready-to-wear and accessories at Stylebop thinks that the popularity of more natural colours lies in sustainability. “I think the sharp rise in demand for brands that possess ethical and sustainable attributes has also brought about a call for natural fabrics in natural colourways.”
There has certainly been an increase in awareness surrounding environmental issues, ethical shopping and how we can support and repair our planet. Fashion Revolution Week educates us on the importance of sustainable shopping and the impact that fashion is having on our environment (more about that on our blog here) and we at Grace & Ted are strongly behind this sentiment.
Warm, earthy tones are easy to wear during the colder months. We’ve seen the tan/biscuit/caramel shades featured strongly on the AW18 catwalk shows and warmer terracotta shades reflected prominently in the seasons accessories.
Cult Gaia have released a collection of rustic jewellery in natural tones (but is in fact 100% acrylic) and Gucci are currently selling plaited silk headbands for the bargain price of £315 (!) but you don’t need to look much further than G&T for your new season accessories. Wear our braided silk bands around your head or neck, layer semi-precious stones over a thick polo neck jumper and enjoy the feel-good factor of wearing handmade, ethical jewellery that doesn’t cost the earth.
All of the pieces pictured below are handmade using semi-precious stones and crystals ethically sourced from around the world. Each item is available to buy on our site and in store.
