Love To Shop Secondhand

Resale, consignment shopping, thrifting – whatever you call it, we love shopping for discounted designer pieces that mean we can have our dream wardrobe and save money! These savings can be put towards holidays, helping to fund important grown up stuff (like pensions, rent) or even just a trip to the cinema (because at £7.50 a go (before snacks) who doesn’t need movie money?)

As well as all those things; being ‘green’, respecting the environment and rediscovering those designer gems you saw in Harpers Bazaar 2 years ago and thought you’d lost – the reasons people love to shop secondhand cover a spectrum of motivation.

Shop at a resale store and you’ll find brands that you rarely see in the sale, at prices more attainable for those of us that like to treat ourselves and still be able to afford food for the rest of the month.

In a world where minimalist rules and most high street stores elegantly place 4 things on a rail, it can be overwhelming to walk into a shop packed to the rafters, with bags lined up like toy soldiers along the shelves. This though, is part of the beauty of secondhand shopping.

There is a formula, for shopping efficiently in a store like G&T and we hope it’ll help on your next visit…

1.   Know what you’re looking for…or at least have a rough idea: need a blouse for an important work meeting? Dress for a special occasion? Or just a great quality pair of perfectly fitting jeans? Staying focussed will help your search and stop you from buying things you don’t really need.
2.   Take your time: we can’t talk for other secondhand shops but Grace & Ted isn’t really a place you can stop for ‘a quick browse’! Choose a day when you have some time to yourself, bring a friend who can join in the hunt and if you want to stay awhile, we’ll happily get you a coffee!
3.   Tell us what you love: if there’s something you really want, tell us about it! A pair of Dolce & Gabbana earrings? A Kenzo sweater or that Gucci hobo bag in super soft leather from their SS12 collection? Let us know and you’ll be the first to know if it happens to walk through our door. Who says you can’t have what you’ve always wanted?

Become a regular with us, shopping amongst designers like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Prada and McQueen and you’ll learn which brands suit your shape. Diane Von Furstenburg create the perfect wrap dresses that will flatter women of all shapes and sizes, while Theory are the go to guys for beautifully tailored blazers…or you might prefer Joseph for a more traditional fit. Either way, you can afford to be picky when prices are at least 50% off!

So, next time you’re in Bath pop in and see us. You can have the wardrobe you’ve always dreamed of and we can’t wait to help you find it!
