The great ‘Snowmageddon of 2018’ is finally over and (dare we say it) Spring seems to finally be making an appearance. We laugh about how Brits are obsessed with the weather (and I definitely live up to that clichè) but it has such a huge impact on the way we feel. It’s amazing what a difference a glimmer of sunshine can make to the number of smiles you see in the street. The appearance of blue skies also reignites an excitement for our wardrobes – it makes us want to shop again; experimenting with new styles, colours and fabrics and means we are finally able to take off that thick woolly scarf…
With this renewed excitement in mind, we have put together our 5 favourite street style trends to inspire your new season wardrobe. So come on down to G&T, try on something new and walk away with something you’ll love.
Now a constant fixture on catwalks each season, a perfectly tailored suit is well worth the investment. Look to resale shops and potentially save yourself thousands (if you’re visiting Grace & Ted any time soon check out the Prada trouser suit currently in store – to.die.for)
Opt for a classic black suit – it will never date – or make more of an impact with something velvet, patterned or with a striking pattern. If you’ve got a few grand spare you should definitely choose the Chloè velvet horse motif suit, guaranteed to be a hit this season!
The suit we’ve featured from G&T ticks many boxes – not only is it brilliant high street tailoring at a bargain price, it’s also leopard print (which is also a huge trend for the new season).
Pair with a simple white t-shirt and matching heels for effortless power dressing.
Lady in Red
Seen at Preen, Victoria Beckham and Max Mara (one of our favourite catwalk looks from the SS18 shows in fact) red is the colour to be seen in this season. Wear it from head to toe, include your bag and your shoes and definitely don’t tone it down with any neutrals. Pick a shade and wear it loud and proud!
We fell in love with this Alexander McQueen red velvet skirt as soon as it came in. The ruching at both sides does remind us of a theatre curtain but in true McQueen style, it is still dramatic, luxurious and totally kick ass. Priced at £95, we have paired it with a simple wool Escada polo neck jumper (£140) and the gorgeous Helmer snakeskin bucket bag we currently have in store (£180). A family owned brand with style and originality at its core, Helmer’s designs are crafted in Bali by skilled local artisans who have been creating handbags for generations. Check it out here.
Pleats to Please
Retro inspired pleats played an integral role on the SS18 catwalks and can be seen on various fashion week fashionistas in all their bright, bold and billowing glory. Whether it’s a day dress or an evening gown, pleats in striking colours, metallics or sumptuous colours will become a staple in your new season wardrobe.
You can’t beat Issey Miyake for the best low maintenance and utterly chic pleats. We often have pieces from the Pleats Please line so keep your eyes peeled for shift dresses, skirts and vests that will be timeless additions to your wardrobe.
We adore this vintage Guy Laroche vintage skirt not only for its perfect pleats but also for the fact it is made in the most luxurious purple velvet. Paired with a simple Armani t-shirt (£45) and a contrasting statement bag from Aspinal (now £224 in our sale) wear it with trainers or slides for easy off duty chic.
We all saw those YSL sequin boots didn’t we? (In fact they’re burned on our brains…) Well they signalled the resurrection of totally OTT glam for the Spring/Summer season.
Sequins, metallics and glitter are the much needed playful antidote to the minimalist trends of seasons gone by. We’ve paired this Malene Birger sequin pencil skirt with a 70’s inspired bat-wing sleeve Tibi jumper and the Russell & Bromley Bowdacious bag (here) because we love the idea of mixing different (yet equally glittery) textures. Wear this skirt with trainers for brunch or pair with heels for a night out – we don’t care where you’re going, we just want you to sparkle! Now £81 and available here.
“She Wore Blue Velvet”
As soon as we laid eyes on this shot from Fashion Week, we fell head over heels for this outfit. If we had a velvet robe we’d be wearing it every day – and don’t get us started on that Gucci bag… Not just for Winter, velvet is the perfect way to add a touch of glamour and romance to an outfit without feeling too glitzy.
Sadly we don’t have a full length blue velvet robe at G&T right now, but we do have this gorgeous Moloh velvet wrap top. We’ve paired it with super soft Marc Cain jeans in a light wash for a cool and casual vibe but this would look great with some wide leg blue velvet trousers, if you happen to have a pair of those already…
